There are so many different locations, techniques and areas to fish that you are probably going to catch a different type of critter every time you go.
There is something for every type of fisherman. Whether it is bottom fishing, trolling or cast-and-retrieve, you can find it on the Georgia and Florida coasts.
The season of the year is going to be the biggest factor in what you can catch, but each season has something special to look forward to.
If you have never been, I can tell you that it is worth the effort, and the expense can be very reasonable if you take three or four friends with you on a charter.
There are plenty of charter boats up and down the Atlantic and Gulf sides and you only need to choose the area you want to visit.
No matter what you decide, there is just about always some action at the salt water destination of your choice. Some areas are going to be better than others for certain species of fish, and if you have a particular type of fish in mind there is a time and place for you to go.
Here's a rundown on what's going on right now from Savannah to Stuart, Fla., on the Atlantic side and from Pensacola to Fort Myers on the Gulf of Mexico.
I wanted to cover places up and down both sides of the Georgia and Florida coasts to give you a feel for what's out there and because you may have an area that you already prefer as a vacation destination.
In the Savannah area, there are lots of slot reds to be caught in the areas close to the beaches. Live shrimp, small menhaden and finger mullet are the baits of choice. There are also tripletails to be caught, and the word is to use the largest shrimp you can find in order to catch these tasty fish. Spanish mackerel are also being caught trolling medium-sized Clark spoons.
Further south around the Jacksonville area, there's not much action in the tidal creeks because the water is so warm, but near shore excursions are catching lots of sharks and reds. Many of the boats are following shrimp boats that are dragging their nets and catching black
